Presented by the Mansfield District Racing Club (MDRC), The Inaugural National Equine Art Prize 2017, commemorates 160 years of country racing with a celebration of ‘The High Country Horse’. The High Country region is synonymous with horses of various character, including: Brumbies, Mountain Cattlemen and their horses, The Rodeo, Draught Horses, Trail Riding, Pony Club, Country Racing Thoroughbreds and the everyday High Country horse. : The Art Prize is open to all Australian residents working to capture a realistic two-dimensional (2D) representation of the High Country Horse. Sculptures, photography and non-realistic intepretations of the High Country Horse will not be admissible. : Total prize monies of $10,000 include: $8,000 Winners Prize; $1,000 Committee Prize; and two Highly Commended Prizes of $500 each. Prizes are non-acuisitive (retained or sold by the artist). Prize monies will be paid to the winning artists following the decision made by the Judges. The Winner will be chosen by renowned artist Tony Pridham. The Judges decision on finalists and winners will be final and no further correspondence shall be entered into. : Up to 40 finalists will be showcased at The National Equine Art Prize Exhibit. This exhibit will be held as part of the MDRC Mansfield Cup Day Races on Saturday April 8th 2017, with a Twilight Gala Presentation of the Award Winners the previous evening Friday April 7th 2017, held at the Mansfield Race Club, Midland Highway Mansfield Victoria. Each finalist is invited to attend the Gala and the Race Day with a complimentary ticket to both included in the submission fee. : To be considered for selection, a competitor must comply with all entry instructions and conditions.
