In response to recent reporting of inhumane treatment of thoroughbred horses in Queensland and NSW, the Mansfield District Racing Club issues the following statement:

“”Equine welfare is non negotiable for the Australian racing industry and the goal of enduring a home for every healthy thoroughbred must remain a priority for all.

The MDRC backs the stand of Racing Victoria for the urgent introduction of a National Horse Traceability Register.

The Club endorses the valuable work of Racing Victoria in programs such as Off the Trackand the promotion of 50 retrainers to support rehoming efforts of owners and trainers.

The equine network in North-Eastern Victoria has been proactive in rehoming of thoroughbreds after racing. There are many positive examples of thoroughbreds that have gone on to impressive careers in equestrian sports such as dressage and eventing and there are large numbers of thoroughbreds in Pony Clubs  and HRCAV.

The MDRC supports the efforts of local trainers, owners, stable staff and riders who strive for the best outcomes.”
